Before You Leave Your Home Before A Hurricane Always Put A Quarter In A Cup Of Ice And Put It In The Freezer

Before you leave your home when a hurricane is approaching, there are a few things that you might do, such as board the windows or make sure outside belongings are put away. A social media post from someone preparing to leave home before Hurricane Matthew hit is now circulating on the internet.

Matthew was one of the largest storms to hit the east coast in a few years. Sheila Russell lives in Lumberton, NC, and posted a helpful tip for those in the way of the hurricane.

Before leaving the home, you put a cup of water in the freezer. Once the water is frozen, put a quarter on top of the ice.

For those of you that are evacuating from the coast, I just heard a great tip. It’s called the one cup tip. You put a cup of water in your freezer. Freeze it solid and then put a quarter on top of it and leave it in your freezer. That way when you come back after you’ve been evacuated you can tell if your food went completely bad and just refroze or if it stayed Frozen while you were gone.
